Change ruler settings
In iBooks Author preferences, you can quickly change settings for rulers and guides.
Alignment guides appear when you drag objects—providing you with instant feedback about relative object position—and vanish when you stop dragging.
Relative spacing guides appear when two or more items line up on a book page.
Relative size guides appear when you adjust an object’s size on a book page.
Adjust ruler settings
If the horizontal ruler isn’t visible, choose Show Rulers from the View pop-up menu in the toolbar.
Choose iBooks Author > Preferences, and click Rulers.

Do any of the following:
Change the units of measure in the rulers: Choose an item from the Ruler Units pop-up menu.
Have a ruler start at the center of the page: Select “Place origin at center of ruler.”
Display measurements as a percentage of the distance across the page: Select “Display ruler units as percentage.”
Customize alignment guides
Choose iBooks Author > Preferences, and click Rulers.

Do any of the following:
Change the color of alignment guides: Click the Alignment Guides color well, and select a color in the Colors window.
Show guides when an object’s center aligns with another object or the center of the page: Select “Show guides at object center.”
Show guides when an object’s edges align with another object: Select “Show guides at object edges.”
Customize relative size and spacing guides
Choose iBooks Author > Preferences, and click Rulers.

Do any of the following:
Change the color of size and spacing guides: Click the Object Spacing & Sizing color well, and select a color in the Colors window.
Show an object’s spacing relative to another object: Select “Show relative spacing.”
Show an object’s size relative to another object: Select “Show relative sizes.”
